Big girls now...

My babies walked home from school today on their own!!! I was soooo worried! Kevin and I have been having some major over-parenting battles lately. He wants them to learn how to be resourceful, independent beings and... well, of course I do too... but I'm terrified of them crossing James Street at that killer crossing in front of the Queens Arms. Anyway, unbeknowns to me, he arranged with them to walk home and told me that he was meeting them. He rang me just before they got home and told me... which is why I was waiting out the front with a camera! ;) Aren't they big girls now.

Doesn't look that far away on this map?

Photo find

S... I just found these photos of us all, first one looks like Hyde Park in London and the second... is that Paris? When was that? Was that 1997? Can't remember if you came over before I had B or after... (I mean, I'm looking pretty porky in that photo! I could be pregnant..) Lovely shots, yes?

My favourites :) Of course, all the frocks I like are black or navy! (You know what my problem is, don't you?!) Very interested in their applique method. Have been thinking of doing something similar myself... Toying with the idea of embroidering or applique-ing (how do you spell that?!) photographs... Playing around with ideas at the moment.

New boots

Did I tell you about the boots I bought in London? They're from an ethical shoemaker called Terra Plana, made out of recycled everything. Love them :) Minus 12 sounds pretty cold, yes... Hope your meeting went well?

Noice

These days I am feeling underwater… breath-taking.

Happy Birthday for the rest of your life....

K the symbols were badly placed, 12 would be quite pleasant I agree but it is MINUS 12 !
I found an entire website you will LURve.
Attempted to do the link button thingy - let me know if it works. Otherwise it's

Sam has 'strep throat' been to doctor, on antibiotics :<
More to report - found out that S is also "normal" as she questioned what the hell I was doing with benefit committee but she agreed you have to try these things out to know how very wrong they are for you!
I've uploaded another photo and now can't find it ! on a mission, I'll be back.

Bubble meeting.

Off to the school benefit committee meeting this morning. I am one of those in charge of the decor. Nightmare. Event being held in very old house called the Winnetka Women's club. Many restrictions cannot adhere anything to walls, ceiling is very high so cannot hang anything from it, old, restricted and scary (sounds like a lot of the women around here really !). I was INVITED to help out, so decided I would, better than not speaking to anyone for the whole time the kids were at school. There is one other woman also helping with decor "L". L actually runs her own event planning company. We spoke yesterday and will meet in person in an hour. It was very refreshing to speak with her as she (after a few prompts from moi), basically admitted that whatever the benefit needed she could probably do in a few hours, but, she could not stand going to the meetings and listening to all the indecision. Her words were, it would "do her head in".....I was very happy that someone would admit that. We then had a small but meaningful bitch about how much time these women had on their hands and how different life is in the real world (not QUT) - which is OUT of the North Shore bubble ! Will report back later in the day ! Wearing very lary dark grey metallic ankle boots to give me some chutzpah. Also lunch with S the neighbour (she is also the Interior Designer and BFF with owner of house!). Sammy sick with bad cough so I think I will probably be picking him up after lunch and bring him home so he stays warm, sunny but -12 today ! Brrrrrrr. xx

Oops!

Forgot to wish you a Happy Australia Day from us!!! Love to the fam :)

Hey babe!

Hi Sar! Very glad that we've managed to set up this blog :)
So... the Australia Day Ball achieved something after all? Always a relief to know you're not the only one but also important not to let yourself fall into the pool. I'm afraid the whole chef thing means nothing to me, but I'm glad you have a great (and funny) hairdresser... one of life's necessities I think, particularly when it's such a boring experience having to sit there for hours with nothing to do. Just thinking... maybe I should take my crochet from now on? Then I could sit there all day!
Found this fabricated bus roll somewhere... I think it was a company in Perth. They had all kinds of ones for different cities in Australia. Obviously going for the more affluent areas to be able to afford their $800 price tag! Can you imagine having one that reads "Inala, Woodridge, Lota..." !!! :)) Must find link for you.... Here it is!
Just found this again... Thinking of you re Chicago. Can't find the link though, I'm afraid. I think I must have grabbed it off the web before I started blogging and didn't think I'd need to attribute sources or anything like that. Anyway, it's a good one.
Also, this one. I found this on a blog you'd absolutely love called Daydream Lily. Most of the posts are photographic, sometimes with words. Just gorgeous.
Lastly, I've just bought this poster... Isn't it cool? I thought I'd get it framed properly (like a real grown up person!) and hang it in the study. You like? I found it here.
Okay babe - now the ball's in your court... You have to press that publish button on that post you have hovering in the Post List! Love you :) K

Only the lonely...

Watershed week. After near n. breakdown on Thursday evening (and good cry) things have very much started to turn around. Went to Aus. Day Ball at Trump hotel downtown on Saturday evening after a good long bitch with my very funny hairdresser that same afternoon. Hairdresser is Brenda, her mother is SWEDISH (can't spell the S. chef noise but that's what I'm thinking - Muppets) and her father is GREEK (Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack). She is a great source of reality as she has travelled extensively (for and American) and is very down to Earth. She has many non yank clients and her std. line for putting them at ease is "Americans are Stupid' - no kidding! She does the hair cut not the colour which is as you would realise very high maintenance. The ball was glam. event arrived in (hideous) stretch limo as ordered by Australian people from few suburbs down the lake that came over on New year's Day. I was excited to discover 'chef' for the evening was Simon Bryant who IS THE CHEF with Ms. Beer on 'the cook and the chef'.....but food was just OK. Won't go into dets except to say that the desert (sticky date pudding) seriously resembled a giant dog poo. They made it in a cylindrical mould and plated it cut on the diagonal. Not pretty - lucky it tasted better than it looked! Had fab. time talking to lots of sad souls and danced wildly - hit the head of Westfield for Mid West US. in the face with one of my strange wiggly hand moves (whoops).. that sort of thing. Mark was very impressed with my lack of normal reservation ! Still talking about it! must have been relaxed but you will be proud to know NOT pissed !
Funny thing was, I met about half a dozen other Australian women, and ALL of them are miserable! Even though this was sad, I now feel so much better that it's not just Me! xxx
